Matthew 16:21–27
THE SEED
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
After recognizing Jesus as the Messiah, Peter resists the way of the cross. He expected victory without suffering. Jesus corrects him because God’s love does not avoid sacrifice; it gives itself completely. The cross is not about seeking pain, but remaining faithful to love even when loving is difficult.
Jesus gives every disciple the same invitation: deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow him. This does not mean despising ourselves, but placing God and our neighbor above selfishness. Our cross may be patience, forgiveness, faithfully fulfilling our responsibilities, or generous service. When we give our lives in love, we discover true life.

This week, do what is right even when it is difficult, help someone when you would rather do something else, and choose forgiveness when you are upset.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me follow you with courage. Teach me to carry my cross with love, serve others, and trust that your way leads to true life. Amen.
