Holy Baptism is the foundation of the entire Christian life, the portal of life in the spirit and the door that opens access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and regenerated as children of God, we become members of Christ and are incorporated into the Church and made participants in her mission (cf Council of Florence: DS 1314; CIC, can 204,1; 849; CCEO 675,1) ("Baptism is the sacrament of the new birth by water and the word": Roman Catechism 2,2,5).

Ordinarily baptisms are not celebrated during Lent. Part of the requirements for this sacrament is that the parents and godparents participate in a small preparation course.
